Belt and Road to take humankind to a higher level of prosperity: PM

BEIJING (92 News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has on Sunday said that Chinese initiative of One Belt and One Road will take humankind to a higher level of prosperity, peace and stability through connectivity and close contact.

Addressing the plenary session of the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing on Sunday, he said that the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is an economic undertaking open to all countries in the region having no geographical boundaries.

The prime minister said that the CPEC is a core project of One Belt One Road that aims to connect the neighborhoods of East and West Asia, adding that it makes Pakistan both a conduit and destination for cross-regional investment and trade.

Nawaz Sharif said that peace and development go hand in hand, and nothing can pave the path for peace and security more than economic development achieved through regional collaboration.

He went on to say that the One Belt and One Road unfolds across continents, we see it fostering inclusion, creating tolerance, and promoting acceptance of cultural diversity. “Pakistan sees it as a powerful tool for overcoming terrorism and extremism.”

Earlier, addressing the inaugural session of One Belt and One Road Forum for International Cooperation, Chinese President Xi Jinping said that the Belt and Road Initiative is "a project of the century" that will benefit people across the world.

Xi Jinping said that the Initiative focuses not only on the Asian, European and African countries, but is also open to all other nations.

The Chinese President said the project envisions inclusive and sustainable growth and takes into account development needs of different countries and regions for common prosperity.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, United Nations Secretary General António Guterres and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan have also addressed the ceremony and extended their full support to the Chinese Belt and Road initiative for the common benefit of world nations.

As many as 29 foreign heads of state and government are participating in the forum.
