‘Benami’ assets: FBR to disclose names of owners, enlists 25,000 priciest properties
LAHORE (92 News) – The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to disclose names of the owners having benami (undisclosed) assets besides enlisting 25,000 priciest properties.
According to the sources in the FBR, the authorities have enlisted 25,000 priciest properties for initiating large-scale action.
It is expected that the bureau will release names of owners of undisclosed properties soon.
The FBR has already kicked off country-wide crackdown against people who had failed to meet July 3 deadline of declaring their benami (undisclosed) assets with the government.
The first visible action was against Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz Senator Ch Tanveer whom 6,000 kanal property was seized by the FBR on Wednesday.
In the first phase, the bureau has launched action from 10 large cities of the country
The crackdown followed the federal government ‘s move to bring people to the tax net by getting their assets disclosed officially.
The FBR has so far reportedly traced 83 undisclosed properties
On Wednesday, the FBR had confiscated ‘benami’ 6,000 kanals of PML-N Senator Ch Tanvir in Rawalpindi.
The senator had purchased the property in the names of his employees.
The FBR issued notices to the employees, including Muhammad Basharat, Raja Abdul Shakoor, Shahjahan Begum, Muhammad Maroof, Azhar Ali and Abdul Hafeez, of Ch Tanvir.
Moreover, the FBR has issued instructions to regional tax commissioners.
The process of conducting raids on the properties of political and general public has been started.
According to the FBR, as many as 83 cases of banami property have been traced. Final lists of the people who declared their properties under the amnesty scheme are being prepared.
The comparative study of these lists can be viewed on the FBR portal.
Raids on benami properties are being conducted in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan and Sargodha.
In Sindh, action is being taken against such properties in Hyderabad, Sukkur and Larkana. So far raids have been conducted at 11 places with the cooperation of the Punjab Board of Revenue.
