Benazir Bhutto’s 66th birth anniversary being observed

LARKANA (92 News) – The 66th birth anniversary of former and first lady prime minister in the world Benazir Bhutto is being observed across the country on Friday (Today). A ceremony will be held at Naudero House, Larkana. Bilawal Bhutto, Assefa Bhutto, Murad Ali Shah and others will participate in the ceremony. A cake would also be cut on the occasion. Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has arranged functions in different cities across the country to mark the day in befitting manner. Stringent t security arrangements have been made on the occasion. The area from Ghari Khuda Bux to Naudero is being sealed. During her political career, she became the voice of the powerless and oppressed and also spent a significant time challenging dictators for restoration of democracy in the country. Many of her supporters and followers still continue to mourn her death. Benazir Bhutto who served as the 11th PM of Pakistan had guided the country’s politics to great heights. With her many modern ideologies, Benazir became one of the most popular leader’s of Pakistan. Benazir was born on June 21, 1953 in Karachi to Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Nusrat Bhutto and received initial education from Lady Jennings Nursery School Karachi. She completed her O-Levels at the age of 15 years and received her undergraduate degree at Harvard. She completed her graduate degree in political science from England’s Oxford University. Benazir started her political career when Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto went to India for negotiating the situation after the 1971 war and took Benazir with him. There, the young Bhutto met Indira Gandhi, the then Indian prime minister. She saw her father pleading Pakistan’s case, negotiating from a point of weakness, before a proud and victorious Indira Gandhi. She learnt the art of politics from The Bhutto himself. Benazir Bhutto was made chief of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) during her exile in 1973 and she was received by a huge crowd upon her return in 1987. Following the killing of General Zia in a plane crash in Bahawalpur on 17th August 1988, PPP sweeped the 1988 general elections and Benazir Bhutto was elected the first female prime minister of Pakistan and Islamic world. Ghulam Ishaq Khan dismissed her government in August 1990 alleging corruption but she was again re-elected as Prime Minister in 1993. The former prime minister was martyred on December 27, 2007 outside Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi.
