Biometric SIMs verification deadline extended till April 13

LAHORE (92 News): Despite reservations by Ministry of Information and Technology, the Interior Ministry has given a 90-day deadline for biometric mobile SIMs verifications. The new deadline for SIM verifications is April 13. Earlier, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and mobile companies set the deadline of February 26 for verifications. However, hundreds of thousands of finger prints were not verified due to technical issues. According to PTA, 5 million SIMs were blocked during the bio-metric verification process. Moreover, PTA sources revealed that more than 42.5 million SIMs have been verified so far but more than 60 percent SIMs are still pending to be processed.
