Brawl erupts between two groups at Punjab University

LAHORE (92 News) – A violent clash erupted between two student groups at the Punjab University on Monday left 19 students injured while the preparations for pioneer festival was underway. As per details, the preparations for the varsity’s pioneer festival were underway when the activists of a student group attacked the activists of rival student group. The attack resulted in fierce clashes between the two student groups in the campus. They also vandalized and set fire to the university’s electrical department. The clash, that also involved pelting of stones, turned the varsity into battlefield, prompting the administration to call police. The activists of a student group blocked the Campus bridge block and demanded that those involved in setting alight the Electrical Engineering department room should be arrested immediately. Police contingents reached the spot and dispersed the students and took the situation in control. The law–enforcement agencies resorted to heavy tear-gas shelling and baton-charge to disperse the students. Several pupils were injured in the ensuing fight. The students also attacked police vehicles and broke the window panes. Talking to media, Punjab University Vice-chancellor Dr Zakriya Zakar said strict action will be taken against those involved in the clash. On the other hand, Punjab CM took notice of the clash and summoned a report from CCPO Lahore. He has also ordered a probe into the incident.
