Federal cabinet approves electoral reforms report, appointment of NCSW members

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Prime Minister Imran Khan presided over a meeting of the federal cabinet on Tuesday. The meeting approved the seven-point agenda, including the electoral reforms report, appointment of the members of the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) and Statistics Department. Moreover, the cabinet also endorsed the decisions made by the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) and the Energy Committee. According to sources, the prime minister said that he was not in favour of the lockdown since day one. “We will further ease the lockdown gradually,” he said. He also hinted at opening the inter-provincial transport in the coming days. “Transport and trains will be resumed after consensus with the provinces. However, the people will have to be convinced to follow the precautionary measures,” he said. Sources said that political parties would be consulted with regard to the electoral reforms. In the electoral reforms report, a change in the method of the Senate election has been proposed. Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Azam Swati presented the report on the electoral reforms. The forum also discussed the situation arising due to the coronavirus pandemic. It rejected the summary regarding the appointment of Central Purchasing Agency CEO. The cabinet approved extension in the date for applying for National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) posts.
