Local bodies elections postponed after murder of ANP candidate in Dera Ismail Khan

DERA ISMAIL KHAN (92 News) – Local bodies elections have been postponed after the murder of ANP candidate Umar Khatab Sherani.

ANP district president, senior lawyer and city mayor candidate Omar Khattab was killed in the early hours of the morning. The tragic shooting took place in the area of Model Town.

According to the family, Omar Khattab Sherani was out of the house for a walk when unknown persons opened fire on him.

Police says that the unidentified assailants who opened fire on Omar Khattab fled after the incident. The body of ANP leader was shifted to hospital. Upon receiving the report of the incident, ANP workers gathered. They protested by placing the body on the road.

After the incident, police cordoned off the area and started searching for the accused while evidence was being collected from the spot.

DI Khan District Election Officer Hayat Ullah Khan has said that due to murder of the candidate elections have been postponed. Elections in remaining districts and neighbor council and village council will be held according to schedule.

New date of elections for the seat of city mayor DI Khan will be announced later.
