CCI unanimously approves National Electricity Policy 2021

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Council of Common Interests (CCI) unanimously approved National Electricity Policy 2021 today.

This was announced by Minister for Energy Hammad Azhar while addressing a news conference along with PM's Special Assistant on Finance and Revenue Dr Waqar Masood Khan on Monday. The meeting was attended by the chief ministers from the four provinces and federal ministers.

During the meeting, the committee presented the final draft of the National Electricity Policy. All objections were removed in the final draft. The new electricity policy is for the next ten years. More than 100 meetings were held with the provinces on the new policy.

He said that Rs 100 billion has been allocated this year to improve the power distribution system. "Today is a historic day that all the provinces have approved the new electricity policy."

He said that in the light of the new policy, 10 to 12 policies would be formulated for the sub-sectors. Under the new policy, the nation will get affordable and environmentally friendly electricity.

The new National Action Plan will be based on the principles set out in the new policy. By 2023, 7 to 10 thousand megawatts will be added to the power system.
