Chairman NDMA briefs high-level meeting over quake relief, rescue operation

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – A high-level meeting with Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif in the chair was held in Islamabad to finalize a comprehensive plan to tackle the situation in the wake of yesterday's earthquake. Chairman National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) Major General Asghar Nawaz updated the Prime Minister about the relief measures taken as quick response to the earthquake. Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, Director General Military Operations Major General Sher Shamshad Mirza, Director General Inter Services Public Relations Lieutenant General Asim Saleem Bajwa, Federal Ministers Ishaq Dar, Chaudhry Nisar, Pervaiz Rashid, Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mahtab, Federal Secretaries and concerned authorities were also present in the meeting. The chairman NDMA said that as many as 250 people have died, while 1700 others injured and 2500 houses damaged in the aftermath of in the aftermath of a powerful earthquake on Monday. He said that 2000 tents, 2000 blankets, 2000 sheets and a helicopter has been handed over to the KP government, while a field hospital has also been established in Dir. Maj Gen Asghar Nawaz said that a truck has been rescued from Lowari tunnel and rescue operation has been started.
