Chaudhry Sugar Mills case: Maryam exempted from appearing before court

LAHORE (92 News) – An accountability court in Lahore on Friday granted exemption to PML-N vice president Maryam Nawaz from appearing before the court till filing of the reference against her in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. Accountability Court judge Ameer Muhammad Khan heard the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case and Yousuf Abbas presented before court by the NAB officials. Maryam Nawaz also appeared before court, during the hearing, the judge asked that where is former prime minister Nawaz Sharif. The court granted a 4-week immunity from court appearance to Nawaz Sharif. The court, while adjourning the hearing till December 6, said that the PML-N leader will face trial after the reference has been filed. The prosecutor of the National Accountability Court (NAB) protested the leverage being offered to the accused but it was to no avail. The case was adjourned till December 6. Judge Ameer Muhammad Khan directed the investigation officer to file the reference immediately. On the other hand, Yousuf Abbas’s judicial remand was also extended for 14 days in the Chaudhry Sugar Mills case. The former premier was declared critically ill by a board of medical professionals and then moved out for better healthcare facilities on humanitarian grounds, given his conviction.
