Chicago: Protest held outside Indian consulate against atrocities in Kashmir

CHICAGO (Web Desk) – People from Pakistan and other communities – waving Pakistani and Kashmiri flags – protested outside the Indian consulate in Chicago on Monday against Indian atrocities in the Occupied Kashmir. A large number of Jewish, Christian and Sikh leaders participated in the protest held outside the Indian consulate. Indian community leaders were also present in the protest. On the occasion, the speakers said that India has imposed curfew in occupied valley for the past one month, adding that the hospital gates are closed for the sick. They also said that Occupied Kashmir is creating the scene of Karbala, with Indian extremist, RSS goons and terrorists – wearing army uniforms – are committing genocide in the Kashmir. The speakers welcomed the steps taken by the Pakistani government on the Kashmir issue, adding that Pakistan has done as per the desires of Kashmir people. Jewish and Christian speakers mentioned that Indian oppression in Kashmir cannot be supported. They appealed to US President Donald Trump and the UN to play their role for resolving this long-standing issue in accordance with UNSC resolutions. The protest was also addressed by Kashmiri leaders Javed Rathore, Irshad Khan, Professor Scott Alexander, Jewish Rabbi Brent Rosen, Imam Mustafa, Saba Khan, Rafida Hameed. on the other hand, curfew and lockdown continued at 36th day today (Monday) in Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK) from August 5 when Narendra Modi government announced scraping of the special status of Jammu and Kashmir. The occupied territory continued to reel under strict military siege on the 36th consecutive day as all markets are closed while transport is off the road. There is no internet and mobile phone service in the Kashmir valley, which remains cut off from the rest of the world since August 5. Patients are scrambling for medicines while doctors are facing immense difficulties to reach the hospitals. Hurriyat activists through posters and handbills issued in occupied Kashmir warned Tri Netra Foundation, an Indian non-governmental organization, to desist from misleading the world community about the prevailing situation of the territory.
