China defends Pak in BRICS Summit, JeM, LeT’s names not included in summit's declaration

GOA (92 News) – Despite Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s focus on highlighting the cross border terrorism emanating from Pakistan, China did not let the inclusion of Jaish-e-Muhammed (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT)’s names in the BRICS Summit declaration. Moreover, Russian president Vladimir Putin also did not mention anything about terrorism. Neither did both the countries mention the Uri attack. The declaration, however, condemned recent terror attacks against BRICS countries. “We strongly condemn the recent several attacks, against some BRICS countries, including that in India. We strongly condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations and stressed that there can be no justification whatsoever for any acts of terrorism, whether based upon ideological, religious, political, racial, ethnic or any other reasons. We agreed to strengthen cooperation in combating international terrorism both at the bilateral level and at international fora,” the declaration said. “We call upon all nations to adopt a comprehensive approach in combating terrorism, which should include countering violent extremism as and when conducive to terrorism, radicalization, recruitment, movement of terrorists including Foreign Terrorist Fighters, blocking sources of financing terrorism, including through organized crime by means of money laundering, drug trafficking, criminal activities, dismantling terrorist bases, and countering misuse of the Internet including social media by terror entities through misuse of the latest Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs),” it added. The Modi government used the forum to hit out at Pakistan, calling the neighbouring country a mother-ship of terrorism. “In our own region, terrorism poses a grave threat to peace, security and development. Tragically, the mother-ship of terrorism is a country in India’s neighborhood,” PM Modi said without directly naming Pakistan.
