BEIJING (92 News) China has declared that it will impose tariffs of up to 84 percent on US imports from Thursday, a significant increase from the previous 34 percent rate on US goods.
The Chinese Ministry of Finance announced this decision on Wednesday, following US President Donald Trump’s imposition of a 104 percent tariff on Chinese products.
In addition, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce has expanded its ‘Unreliable Enterprise List’ by adding six more US companies, further complicating their ability to operate in China.
Among the newly listed firms are the aerospace and defence company Sierra Nevada Corporation and several US businesses engaged in artificial intelligence.
Previously, PVH, the parent company of prominent fashion brands, was also included on this list. Companies designated as ‘unreliable’ may face financial penalties and other sanctions, significantly disrupting their operations in China.
Meanwhile, the 104 percent tariff levied by President Trump on Chinese goods took effect on Wednesday.
