China warns US of fighting to the end on tariff issue
BEIJING (Web Desk) China has warned the United States (US) of fighting to the end if Washington does not change its approach on the tariff issue.
A spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of Commerce says that the challenges facing China's foreign trade have increased significantly, but China's foreign trade capacity has not decreased.
“We will firmly fulfill our responsibilities and take effective measures against the uncertain situation,” he said.
“China's foreign trade has the ability to deal with risks and challenges. China's position is clear and consistent that the door to dialogue is open, but dialogue should be based on mutual respect and equality. Blackmail, pressure, and threats are not the right way to deal with China,” he added.
“There are no winners in a trade war. Protectionism is a one-way street,” he pointed out.
On Wednesday, China declared that it will impose tariffs of up to 84 percent on US imports from Thursday, a significant increase from the previous 34 percent rate on US goods.
The Chinese Ministry of Finance announced the decision to increase the tariff on US goods, following US President Donald Trump’s imposition of a 104 percent tariff on Chinese products.
In addition, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce expanded its ‘Unreliable Enterprise List’ by adding six more US companies, further complicating their ability to operate in China.
