CJ expresses anger over delay in Nandipur corruption case's probe

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan Mian Saqib Nisar on Thursday expressed anger over delay in the probe of Nandipur power project corruption scandal. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice heard case against allegations of corruption in the construction of 525-megawatt combined cycle power plant at Nandipur. During the hearing, the chief justice asked that how many times the investigation was delayed. To reply, NAB prosecutor informed the court that the probe initiated in February 2017 and the investigation on outsourcing project started on 2018. He also told that the Law Ministry delayed this project till two years. The investigation officer also informed the court that the responsible of outsourcing the power plant is its board of the director. The CJP said that this case was pending from long time and as per law the expenses increased due to the delay in the project. "If the court takes notice of the matter then the NAB's process become very quick. This is not the right way, the action may be taken against the former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Qamaruz Zaman Chaudhry for delaying the case," he remarked. The top judge maintained that a time frame will be provided to wind up the case and the investigation officer will be held responsible if any error is found in the probe. The court summoned former NAB chairman and prosecutor general. The apex court directed to submit list of all the cases that faced delay in the tenure of Chaudhry. The hearing was adjourned for 15 days.
