CJ forms five-member bench to hear uplift grant to lawmakers by PM case

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed has constituted a five-member bench to hear a case pertaining for granting development funds to lawmakers by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan.

The larger bench headed by the chief justice will hear the case tomorrow. Intimation notices have been issued to the prime minister’s principal secretary, cabinet secretary and finance secretary.

The court has also put the attorney general as well as all advocate generals on notice.

Earlier on Feb 3, Justice Qazi Faez Isa on Wednesday took the notice of the development funds announced by Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan for lawmakers of National and provincial assemblies.

During a hearing of a case, Justice Faez Isa asked that is the prime minister’s giving funds to lawmakers in line with the constitution and law.

He directed the Advocate General and Attorney General to seek instructions from the government and inform the SC in this regard. We will dispose of the matter if the grant is being given as per the constitution and law, he said.

Justice Isa remarked that the matter will be sent to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Gulzar Ahmed for constitution of the bench to hear the notice.
