Pending cases will end if vacant seats of judges are filled, says CJ
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice (CJ) of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa said on Friday that if 25 per cent vacant seats of judges fill, then the pending cases will be ended in a year or two.
During the hearing of case, the chief justice remarked that the courts are not responsible of the cases still pending to be wrapped up.
“The pending cases in courts have exceeded by 1.9 million. Only 3000 judges are present for to cater to a population of 221 to 222 million people,” notified the CJ.
Comparing the Supreme Court of Pakistan with US Supreme Court, the CJ Asid Khosa said that the SC wrapped up a total of 26,000 cases last year, while the US Supreme Court managed to only wrap up 80 to 90 cases.
However; the judicial system is still trying to wrap up the pending cases even with the shortage of judges.
CJ warns to take strict action against false testimony
Earlier, CJ Asif Saeed Khosa on Monday announced to take strict action against false testimony.
The Supreme Court bench headed by the chief justice heard a murder case. During the hearing, the chief justice has remarked that the court is starting a journey towards truth from today, which will entail strict action against those found to be guilty of having given false testimony in court cases.
CJP Khosa dismissed a murder case after it was found out that it was based on a false testimony given by a police officer. “All those who have given testimonies, beware. We are starting a journey towards truth from today, March 4,” the chief justice said.
“If any part of any testimony is found to be false, the whole of it [the testimony] will be disregarded,” the chief justice warned. “People who lie in testimonies have ruined the [judicial] system,” he remarked.
CJP ordered legal proceedings against a policeman on for committing perjury.
It is worth mentioning here that ASI Khizar Hayat, who was summoned by the court over allegations of giving false account of a murder incident, was appeared before the bench today.
“You were on duty in Wahdat Colony Lahore, while become a witness in a murder incident in Narowal,” Chief Justice Khosa addressing the policeman said. ” I have given statement on the oath,” the ASI replied.
