CJ to request caretaker PM for solving water issue

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday remarked that he will request caretaker Prime Minister Justice (r) Nasirul Mulk for solving water and electricity issues. A three-member bench of the apex court, headed by the CJP, heard a suo motu notice of water shortage in Islamabad. During the proceedings, the CJP remarked that he would request the interim Prime Minister Nasirul Mulk to personally monitor the water shortage issue. The chief justice also said that the caretaker government should not dissolve till the issue is resolved. "Reports are presented but there is no progress in the case," he observed. Saqib Nisar remarked that the federal government had failed to appoint members of the Federal Cabinet, pointing out that the existing five cabinet member could not effectively run the country. The top judge advised interim premier that a meeting should be called on the water issue and decide about the serious concerns. "If the federal government does not take any step immediately, then the citizens of Islamabad will be deprived from the water. The CJP remarked that the people were deprived from the water, without rain how people get the water. He said that no place existed in the federal capital where concrete was not available, saying that due to this concrete the water of rain is not reaching to the reservoirs under earth. During the previous hearing, on June 8, the CJP had observed that the owners of tube wells were acquiring water for free and selling it to residents of the federal capital, which was causing water shortage in the federal capital. The SC issued notices to top officials from the Capital Administration and Development Division as well as the attorney general, advocate general, and others, and demanded an explanation regarding the water shortage in the capital.
