CJP takes suo motu notice on F-8 Football ground encroachment
February 5, 2018
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Justice Mian Saqib Nisar has on Monday taken notice of encroachment of F-8 football ground in the federal capital by lawyers who are constructing their chambers on the plot. The CJP also ordered Capital Development Authority (CDA) Chairman to submit a report in the next three days. Earlier last month, the lawyers associated with Islamabad Bar Association (IBA) continued constructing their chambers on the land of a football ground in Sector F-8 of the federal capital. The encroachment of the football ground was followed by construction of multi-storey offices for lawyers around district court premises. CDA officials had said they were helpless because lawyers turn violent whenever enforcement teams try to stop and undo the construction. This is not the first time that land of the football ground was usurped by the lawyers but a number of chambers had been constructed in the ground in February 2013 as well. A CDA report stated that lawyers were not only encroaching the said public facility but they have also encroached state land worth millions of rupees, which was recently retrieved by the civic body after removing a hotel set-up namely ‘Pehalwan Restaurant’ from the site. A portion of the football ground has already been appropriated by lawyers but now around 140 new chambers are being constructed on remaining area and nobody is in position to stop the lawyers as they have already obtained a restraining order from the court of Senior Civil Judge-II (West).
