COAS General Raheel Sharif turns 59th today

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif is celebrating his 59th birthday on Tuesday. General Raheel Sharif was born on June 16, 1956 in Quetta to a family of prominent military background which has its roots in Gujrat, Punjab. His father was Major Muhammad Sharif. His eldest brother Major Shabbir Sharif, was martyred defending Pakistan and was awarded Nishan-e-Haider. He is the nephew of Major Aziz Bhatti, another Nishan-e-Haider recipient of the family. He received his formal education from the Government College in Lahore. After graduation in 1976, he was commissioned into the 6th Battalion of the Frontier Force Regiment. General Raheel Sharif served as an adjutant to the Pakistan Military Academy. He was assigned command of the 11th Infantry Division. He also served as Core Commander Gujranwala and Inspector General Training and Evaluation. On 27 November 2013, General Sharif was appointed as the 15th Chief of Army Staff.
