COAS General Raheel Sharif visits Army Liver Transplant Unit

Rawalpindi (92 News) – Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif visited Army Liver Transplant Unit (ALTU) in Rawalpindi on Monday. During the visit, General Raheel Sharif was given detailed briefing about the state of the art medical facilities established at the institute. The COAS visited different departments of the institute and spent time with patients and inquired about their well being. Appreciating doctors and paramedical staff of the institute, the army chief commended their commitment and dedication for establishing such a facility and extending medical care to the patients. The ALTU is the first liver transplant program introduced in Pakistan Armed Forces and third in the country which is being developed as national multi organ transplant centre. At least 260 successful hepato-pancreato-biliary (Liver related) and six successful live liver transplant surgeries have been performed so far in consultation/collaboration with University Hospital Birmingham, UK. Earlier on arrival at ALTU, the COAS was received by Lieutenant General Anwar Ali hyder, Pakistan Army Adjutant General and Military Hospital Commandant Major General Tariq Hussian.
