COAS Qamar Bajwa, Chinese ambassador discuss regional security & COVID-19

RAWALPINDI (92 News) – Yao Jing, Chinese Ambassador to Pakistan, called on Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa on Tuesday. According to a press release issued by the ISPR, matters of mutual interest, including regional security issues and COVID-19, were discussed during the meeting. The COAS expressed gratitude for China's support related to immediate medical supplies and all other assistance, including visit of Chinese medical experts, to help Pakistan fight the pandemic. The visiting dignitary also re-assured China's continued support for Pakistan at all forums. Earlier, Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa telephoned Chief of Armed Forces of Iran Major General Mohammad Hossein Baqeri and discussed matters related to border security. According to the press release of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), both the commanders resolved to enhance security measures on either side of the border. The recent terrorist attack on Pakistan security forces near Pak-Iran border which resulted in martyrdom of six security personnel also came under discussion. During the telephonic conversation, COAS Bajwa said that Pakistan has started fencing the border but will require mutual bilateral cooperation to ensure border security and stem smuggling activity which is also used by terrorists and Narco traffickers for covering their movement. The army chief also reiterated Pakistan’s desire for regional peace and stability on basis of mutual respect, non interference and equality. He called for increased exchange of expert delegations to maintain stability and security and prevent terrorist acts along the shared borders. General Bajwa and Maj Gen Baqeri also discussed coronavirus situation and ways to improve border terminals to address such issues.
