COMSTECH announces 500 scholarships for Palestinian students

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The OIC Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (COMSTECH) has announced 500 scholarships for the Palestinian students.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday, COMSTECH Coordinator Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal disclosed that 24 private sector universities have announced over 370 scholarships while 14 public sector universities have assured 130 scholarships.

Giving details, he said that University of Faisalabad will grant 50 scholarships, Abasyn University Peshawar 10, Alhamad Islamic University Quetta 12, Jinnah University for Women Karachi 20, Greenwich University Karachi 10, Indus University Karachi 50, Institute of Southern Punjab Multan 5, Muhammad Ali Jinnah University Karachi 5, FAST University Islamabad 15, Preston University Islamabad 10, Qurtuba University Peshawar 10, Sarhad University Peshawar 20, CUSIT University Peshawar 12, Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology Karachi 10, University of South Asia 10, University of Sialkot 10, Iqra University Karachi 20, Superior University Lahore 15, University of Lahore 20, Textile Institute of Pakistan Karachi two, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Dewan University Karachi five, Muslim University Islamabad four, Al-Khair University Azad Jammu and Kashmir 10, Muslim University Islamabad four and CECOS University Peshawar 10 scholarships.

Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal said GC University will grant 12 scholarships, International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS) Karachi 10, Islamia University Bahawalpur 10, Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad eight, COMSATS University Islamabad 10, NED University of Engineering and Technology Karachi five, Khwaja Fareed University of Engineering and Information Technology (KFUEIT) Rahim Yar Khan 40, University of Lahore 15, University of Punjab 12 and NAT CANE University Turkey 8 scholarships.

The COMSTECH coordinator said that the rights of Palestinians have been usurped since 1984. "Palestine is very near to our hearts and an important pillar of the Muslim Ummah. Palestinians people are under siege and aggression of occupant forces. As many as 450 schools have been destroyed by bombardment in Gaza," he said.

Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal said that students selected for the scholarships would be provided each kind of facility. "Over 70-decade occupation has badly affected the education system of the Palestine state. Under the special programme, students will be provided research fellowships and grant in workshops in addition to training of technical experts," he said.

He was of the view that the admission will be easy for the Palestinian students through the collaboration of relevant organizations and partner universities.

"The Palestinians were mostly affected in education. We have to help the Palestinians. Palestinians students can come to Pakistan to complete their education," the COMSTECH coordinator concluded.
