Contempt of court case: Attorney general requests IHC to indict Rana Shamim

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Attorney General Khalid Javed Khan has appealed to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to indict Gilgit Baltistan former chief judge Rana Shamim in the contempt of court case.

During the hearing, he said that there was evidence that Rana Shamim had himself leaked the affidavit.

Rana Shamim said that his grandson had sent the original affidavit from London that had not reached Pakistan yet.

Journalist Ansar Abbasi and editor Amir Ghouri appeared in court.

IHC Chief Justice Athar Minallah remarked that it cannot happen that someone should question the credibility of the judiciary after three years. "The court will not tolerate if someone will try to create mistrust," he observed.

Meeanwhile, the court granted time to journalist Ansar Abbasi till December 20 for submitting the reply.

The court obsreved that publishing someone’s personal documents is illegal. Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists (PFUJ) sectary general Nasir Zaidi appreaed in court and said that the history is very bitter. At this, IHC Chief Justice remarked, “I do not have any concern with the history. I will not listen here any political speech. Headline of newspaper gave impression that judges take instructions. News cannot be published about the pending appeals.”

The court adjoured the case till December 20.
