Corruption in LNG agreement: SC rejects Sh Rashid’s plea against PM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan has rejected AML chief Sheikh Rashid’s plea against Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi with regard to alleged corruption in the LNG agreement. A three-member bench led by CJP Saqib Nisar heard the plea. The CJP remarked the matter does not pertain to Article 184, asking the petitioner to approach the NAB. “The agreement was signed between two countries and I think all necessary things would have been taken into consideration,” he observed. He said that under which article the prime minister should be disqualified. “Why do you want disqualification of the prime minister?” he said. Latif Khosa, counsel for Sheikh Rashid, said that Pakistan has vast serves of natural gas. “The LNG agreement has been signed for 15 years. It everything is being concealed. Under the agreement, an amount of US$ 272,000 is being paid daily,” he contended. The CJP remarked that there are independent institutions in the country, which have been established to look after the national exchequer.
