ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Additional Sessions Judge Afzal Majuka acquitted the PTI founder and his wife Bushra Bibi in the case pertaining to ‘nikkah’ during ‘Iddat’ on Saturday, annulling the sentence awarded to them by the trial court.

The court ordered to release the PTI founder and Bushra Bibi. The court announced the verdict that was reserved after the completion of the arguments of both sides. The court also issued their release order.

Khawar Maneka’s counsel contended that Slaman Akram Raja was accepting the verbal divorce given in April. “The verbal divorce has no legal status and court judgments are available in this regard. The law states that the documentary proof will be authentic as compared to a verbal word,” he added.

Salman Akram Raja, counsel for the PTI founder, stated that whether Khawar Maneka and Bushra Bibi were in the nikkah bond if no notice was issued so far. “Under Section 7 of the Muslim Family Law, the notice is not mandatory,” he added.

On February 3, Judicial Magistrate Qudratullah had awarded seven-year each sentence to PTI founder and his wife Bushra Bibi in the case, declaring their nikkah against Sharia. The court had also fined both of them Rs500,000 each.
