KARACHI (92 News) – A local court has on Thursday allowed Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Waseem Akhtar to go abroad. The court rejected Sindh Rangers petition seeking to bar the MQM leader to go abroad. The court ordered Waseem Akhtar to return on July 19. During the proceedings, MQM leader Waseem Akhtar said that his family is in Karachi, adding that he would not run away. The court had granted permission to Akhtar to travel abroad for 20 days. However, the Rangers quickly challenged the court order. Akhtar is one of many MQM officials who have been accused of asking former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain to provide shelter and treatment to terrorists at his private medical facilities in parts of Karachi.
