Court won’t allow tax money for election campaign: CJP

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Chief Justice Saqib Nisar, while hearing the government advertisement case, remarked that court will not allow anyone to consume tax money for voting purpose adding that court may ban development funds before elections. A three-member bench heard the case pertaining to government advertisement. Government lawyer Nayyar Rizvi told the court that the federal government consumed Rs 890 million for advertisement in three months, adding that nine advertisements had pictures in them. The CJP asked whose pictures were there in advertisements. He also asked one advertisement was about elimination of load shedding adding that whether it had been ended. Additional Attorney General responded that a visible decline in load shedding has been observed. Justice Ijazul Ahsan said self-portrayal cannot be allowed with people’s money. Justice Umar Ata Bandiyal said policies and slogans should not be advertised. The CJP remarked that development funds may be banned by court before general elections adding that national treasury will not be allowed to consume for grabbing votes. He said that government should keep public aware of its performance but people’s money should be consumed on public.
