COVID-19 likely to reach its highest level in Pakistan by end of May: FM

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Foreign Minister (FM) Shah Mehmood Qureshi has expressed his fears that the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is expected to reach its highest level in Pakistan by the end of May. “We must be ready that the number of corona-infected patients will increase,” FM Qureshi warned, in a statement on Thursday. “The people need to be encouraged to take precautionary measures to curb this virus,” he added.
Efforts afoot to bring back stranded Pakistanis
Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said efforts are afoot to bring back the stranded Pakistanis in the Gulf, who send billions of dollars in the form of foreign exchange, at the earliest. “The problems of stranded Pakistanis are understood, they want to be brought back soon,” he maintained. The minister mentioned that the screening is being done at the airports and Quarantine facilities have also been expanded there. He also said that the opening of remaining airports has enhanced our capacity to bring back six to seven thousand Pakistanis from abroad every week.
Coronavirus badly affected economy
FM Qureshi said the coronavirus has badly affected the economy of the world. He said this pandemic will also increase pressure on Pakistan's economy as it has brought to a standstill the economic activity and reduced our exports.
Pakistan increased its testing capacity of COVID-19
The minister said Pakistan has increased its testing capacity for coronavirus. “We had earlier testing capacity of three thousand but it will reach twenty to thirty thousand by May,” he added.
