Customs officials foils bid to smuggle foreign currency

SUKKUR (92 News) – Customs officials on Thursday foiled the bid to smuggle foreign currency at Sukkur Airport. According to the sources of customs authorities, they have recovered over $450,000, 2.5kg gold, jewellery and two thousands Dirham from a passenger at airport. It was reported that they stopped a passenger on doubt at the airport and when his baggage was checked, foreign currency and gold were recovered. However, the passenger was taken into custody by the custom officials for further investigations. The sources also said that the passenger identified as Muhammad Islam and the accused had already travelled in Dubai, India and many other countries. It was also reported that a money laundering case would be registered against the accused. Earlier, ANF foiled a bid of smuggling drugs abroad from the Lahore airport. According to the reports, officials of the ANF recovered heroin-filled capsules, from a passenger on a Dubai-bound flight.
The arrested man was identified as Hamid Alauddin. The drugs were concealed in the capsules, the passenger was carrying with him, the officials said. The passenger was going to Dubai via foreign aircraft when he was arrested from the Allama Iqbal International Airport.
On July 21, the son of former Pakistan Muslim League-N MPA Fozia Ayub Qureshi was arrested from his Bahawalpur residence after the Anti-Narcotics Force raided the property to find a huge quantity of chars on Sunday. According to the sources, officials took Tayyab Ayub into custody after seizing four maunds chars from his Kausar Colony residence. On his pointation, the Anti-Narcotics Force officials also arrested Adeel Aslam, who is the son of former candidate of Punjab Assembly seat Aslam Rind.
