ISLAMABD (92 News) – Today is the deadline for overseas Pakistanis’ voter registration. As per details, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has given deadline for overseas Pakistanis’ to get themselves registered in order to participate in the by-elections ended on Monday. Only seven thousands four hundred ten overseas Pakistani from Six lakh 27 thousand registered themselves as a voter in I-voting system, the number of registered people only 1.20 per cent of the total overseas voters. Eleven thousands 330 overseas Pakistanis’ make their account while 0.6 million 19 thousands 590 voters did not show their interest in voting. According to the sources, the expense worth 9 crore will be occurred to develop I-voting software. In the first time in the history of Pakistan, the overseas Pakistanis will have to access the I-voting system to cast their vote. On the day of polling, the voter will access his account along with the voter pass emailed to him and cast his vote in the constituencies his vote is registered in. In order to further facilitate the overseas voters, the ECP has also uploaded guidance video tutorials both in Urdu and English languages on its website. By-election will be held in 37 constituencies for both national and the provincial assemblies on October 14. On the day of by-election, overseas voters will be given nine hours to cast their votes, as per Pakistan Standard time, 8am till 5pm. Only those abroad will be allowed to vote who have National Identity Card for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOP) or Machine Readable Passport (MRP). Earlier, the ECP had extended the deadline for registration from September 15 till September 17 (today). The deadline was extended by the electoral body in order to ensure the maximum number of registration of overseas Pakistanis.
