Death toll from mysterious gas leakage in Karachi at 14

KARACHI (92 News) – Death toll in Karachi’s mysterious gas leakage has surged to 14 in two days. According to the details garnered, the death toll from toxic gas leak in the coastal residential area of Kimari has reached eight as two more people died. The Sindh Health Department confirmed the 9th death from the gas leak at the Ziauddin Hospital late Monday while another man died later at the KPT Hospital. Mysterious poisonous gas leak continues to affect residents of Kimari on second day as dozens of more persons reached various hospitals of the city on Monday. As many as 86 more people with severe breathing problems were brought to the hospital after inhaling the poisonous gas reportedly emitted from a container carrying chemicals used to preserve peas in Keamari area of Karachi. The exact causes of the deaths have not yet been ascertained, hospital sources said and added that that three of the victims were in critical condition. On Monday, at least five people lost their lives in a mysterious gas leakage in Kemari port area of Karachi. According to the details garnered, more than 100 affected people are being treatment at various healthcare facilities of the city. Five people killed including two women and dozens of hospitalized after falling unconscious. Three dead individuals were identified as Maymar Begum, Rizwan, and Ahsan. “Shocked to hear about loss of life due to poisonous gases in Kemari. Although the incident is not in the port, KPT officials have been dispatched to investigate the root cause,” Federal Minister of Maritime Affairs Ali Zaidi said. “By the Help of Almighty, things are now getting under control. NBCD team is deployed & are investigating root cause of the poisonous gas. I have just now personally visited East Wharf & checked on the ships, including the vessel carrying soya bean from the US without any mask,” he tweeted. Initial reports claimed that more than 100 people were affected by the poisonous gas that spread in the Jackson Market area near the shipping port, local police, and other law enforcement agencies cordoned off the area to conduct a search operation after a thorough search the area was declared clear for commuters after the initial gas release. The teams of Pakistan Navy have also reached the spot on the appeal of Ali Zaidi to assist the rescue and the relief operations. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has ordered the Commissioner of Karachi police to submit a report on the matter on a priority basis. CM Sindh also issued directives to ensure the providence of the best healthcare facilities to those affected by the gas.
