Death toll from Swat CTD blasts rises to 17, funeral prayers of 12 martyred cops offered

SWAT (92 News) - The death toll from two blasts at Swat CTD police station rose to 17 on Tuesday.

As many as 60 people were injured in the blasts. The condition of eight policemen is stated to be critical.

Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of 12 martyred policemen were offered. A large number of people, including the IGP Punjab and military officials also attended the funeral.

The blasts demolished the police station building as well as walls of nearby mosque, houses and schools. The operation to remove the debris from the site is underway.

According to the preliminary report, the munitions present in the police station store caught fire due to short-circuit and there was no proof of an attack from outside.

A two-member committee comprising of Home Secretary Abid Majid and DIG Special Branch has been formed to investigate the matter and submit a report.
