ISLAMABAD (92 News) – Pakistan Defense Day is being observed today (Tuesday) with renewed pledge to defend the homeland. It was on 6th of September in 1965 that the Indian forces crossed international border and attacked Pakistan but our armed forces backed by the nation foiled nefarious designs of the enemy. The Day dawned with 31-gun salute at the Federal Capital and 21-gun salute at provincial capitals. Special prayers were offered after Fajr prayer for the progress and prosperity of the country. Fateha and Quran Khawani is being held for the martyrs. In Lahore, an impressive ceremony was held at tomb of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, where Pakistan Army and Rangers presented a guard of honor and laid floral wreath. After the ceremony, Major General Tariq Amman laid a floral wreath at the mausoleum and offered Fateha from the Pakistan Army, while Brigadier Asim Hussain Gardezi laid floral wreath and offered Fateha from the Punjab Rangers. President Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif have expressed the resolve of the nation and armed forces to protect sovereignty and security of Pakistan at all costs. In his message on Pakistan Defense Day, President Mamnoon Hussain said that September 6 is a milestone in our history when Pakistan Army and the entire nation courageously defended the homeland against the enemy aggression. On the other hand, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said in his message that the armed forces had given a clear message to the enemy about the independence of country on September 6. “We have attained self-reliance in production of advanced weapons and our nuclear capability is the hallmark of our strong defense,” he added.
