Denied rooms, Pakistani family spends day on street
October 16, 2015
MUMBAI (92 News) – A Pakistani family of six including two women, visiting Mumbai with their 12-year-old mentally disabled son, was denied shelter in as many as 40 guesthouses, lodges and hotels in the city. The family that reached the city ended up spending the night at Mumbai Central railway station. The Railway Police Force (RPF) noticed the family and provided the members shelter around Wednesday midnight. Head of the family, Mohammad Shakil, said, “A few days ago, we came to India from Pakistan. We have all the documents including a valid visit visa lasting for 40 days.” Asked about the purpose of their visit, Shakil said, “My 12-year-old son Inayat Ali is mentally challenged. We wanted to offer our prayers at the Haji Ali Dargah in south Mumbai as we have heard a lot about it. We wanted to seek blessings for my son.” “After being denied shelter father of Inayat hired a taxi and told the driver to take us to a station closest to Haji Ali Dargah. So, the taxi driver brought us to Mumbai Central where we decided to sleep on the footpath as we wanted to visit the Dargah only on Jummeraat (Thursday),” said 12-year-old Inayat’s aunt Khurshid Bano.
