Doctors, paramedics end strike after successful talks with govt

LAHORE (92 News) – Young doctors, nurses and paramedics ended their strike against the Medical Teaching Institution (MTI) Act after successful talks with the government on Monday. All the outdoor patients departments (OPDs) resumed work after the strike that lasted for 11 days across the province, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, Faisalabad and Multan. Doctors, nurses and paramedics started work in all teaching hospitals as usual. The staff had stopped work in OPDs of government hospitals due to the strike. No operation could be conducted due to the strike. Owing to the strike, patients faced a lot of problems in getting treatment. The Grand Health Employees Alliance office-bearers had said that they would not allow anyone to introduce the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-like system in Punjab. They said that they would not allow anyone to enforce the MTI Act in Punjab. They had also threatened to close indoor departments from Friday if the MTI Act was not withdrawn.
