May 20, 2019
LAHORE (92 News) – The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) initiated another probe against Opposition Leader Shehbaz Sharif over alleged financial irregularities in purchase of expensive Dolphin Force motorbikes. According to the sources, the anti-graft watchdog has summoned record of the procurement of motorcycles for the force, however, the corruption demanded purchase records from Punjab government today (May 20). Shehbaz, being the chief minister of Punjab, had approved a project with regard to importing heavy bikes from abroad back in 2015. A unit was purchased at an inflated cost of Rs1.7 million. Sources said 25 per cent of the imported motorcycles are standing idle because of some technical faults and that their spare parts are not available in the court to repair them. NAB informed that former Inspector General (IG) Punjab will be inquired alongside Shehbaz Sharif after they get the records. A questionnaire will be sent in the first phase, NAB added. NAB is alreading investigating Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) in Ramazan Sugar Mills reference, Saaf Pani Company reference and Ashiana-e-Iqbal housing scheme reference. It is pertinent to mention here that Shehbaz departed for London last month after the Interior Ministry removed his name from the exit control list (ECL) on the directions of the Lahore High Court. According to a notification issued by the ministry, Shehbaz’s name was removed from the no-fly list on the directives of the LHC that granted him bail in the Ashiana housing scam and Ramzan Sugar Mills case. Earlier, IGP Punjab Amjad Javed Saleemi has ordered Dolphin Force to take a refresher course. Expressing his indignation at the poor performance which claimed two lives last year, he said that the cops will be imparted special training to overpower the enemy without firing a shot and show positive attitude towards the people. According to the sources, 250 officials will be sent for training in the first phase. Dolphin Force will take a four-week refresher course. They will undergo two-week training at Police Headquarters, Qila Gujjar Singh and one-week training each at Bedian Training Centre and Chuhng Training Centre.
