KARACHI (92 News) Measles cases have witnessed a surge in Karachi, with dozens of children being admitted to hospitals across the city.
Dr Irfan, the ward in charge at the Sindh Infectious Diseases Hospital, reported that 17 measles patients are currently being treated at the hospital, eight of whom are under the age of one.
The National Institute of Child Health has also seen an increase in measles cases, with over six children arriving at the emergency department daily.
Similarly, Civil Hospital Karachi is reporting four to six new cases each day, with 12 patients receiving treatment for measles.
At Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, six cases have been reported, while 12 patients have been admitted to Qatar Hospital in Orangi this year.
Health experts warn that measles, a viral disease primarily affecting unvaccinated children, can be deadly, with early symptoms including cold, cough, and rashes.
Medical professionals stress that measles weakens the immune system and can become fatal if it intensifies.
