KARACHI (92 News) – An anti-terrorism court on Thursday transferred former federal minister and Sindh Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman Dr Asim Hussain into the custody of Rangers personnel for 90 days. Dr Asim is a close aide of former president and Pakistan People's Party (PPP) Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari. He was appointed as the federal minister for petroleum during the PPP government in 2008, during which he was accused of corruption in the LNG and LPG deals and indiscriminately issuing licenses for CNG stations. On the other hand, Dr Ejaz Fatima, mother of former federal minister and Sindh Higher Education Commission chairman Dr Asim Hussain, on Thursday filed a petition in the Sindh High Court on Thursday challenging arrest of her son. The court has been appealed to order immediate release of Dr Asim Hussain as he not only holds no criminal record but is also a former federal minister and an esteemed politician. It has been further stated that Dr Asim would be willing to cooperate in investigation if any accusation is leveled against him. Another petition was filed against the arrest of Dr Asim by the advocate Moulvi Iqbal Haider, in which he stated that the court order other parties to present themselves in the court and demand reasons for Dr Asim’s arrest. Meanwhile, Dr Asim Hussain was taken into custody on Wednesday in Karachi.
