Dr Zafar meets Bill Gates, discuss polio eradication progaramme

ABU DHABI (92 News) – Special Assistant on National Health Services Dr Zafar Mirza met with Co-Chair of Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Bill Gates in Abu Dhabi and discussed polio eradication programme. During the meeting, the special assistant informed Bill Gates about efforts towards polio eradication and vaccinations. He said that the government has prepared a coordinated and comprehensive plan to make Pakistan polio free. Dr Zafar Mirza said world institutions will provide 2.6 billion dollars including 1.08 billion dollars by Bill Gates Foundation for polio eradication in the country. He further said the government will allocate 150 million dollars for the anti-polio programme. The special assistant appreciated Gates Foundation efforts towards polio eradication. In the previous year,  Bill Gates phoned Prime Minister Imran Khan and congratulated him on winning the elections and assuming the office. The call continued for 30 minutes. Bill Gates assured the prime minister of support in other sectors as well. They exchanged views on strengthening the IT Department in the country. Prime Minister Imran Khan thanked Bill Gates for cooperation in social sector. On the other hand,  Microsoft Company Chairman Bill Gates also lauded PM Imran Khan for a new anti-poverty strategy. The Microsoft founder took his twitter and has appreciated Imran Khan for showing leadership in developing a new anti-poverty strategy under Ehsaas Program. “Ending poverty and achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) requires a whole-of-government approach Ending poverty and achieving the SDGs requires a whole-of-government approach. Imran Khan and Sania Nishtar have shown leadership in developing a new anti-poverty strategy,” the Microsoft chairman tweeted.
