ECC approves deferment of fuel adjustments in electricity bills

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved deferment of monthly and quarterly fuel adjustments in the electricity bills of the consumers till June 2020. The committee met in Islamabad today under the chair of Adviser on Finance Hafeez Sheakh. The committee also approved four technical supplementary grants for the current financial year: The technical supplementary grants have been approved for Federal Public Service Commission amounting to 160 million rupees, achievement of Sustainable Development Goal Program amounting to 1700 million rupees, Special Security Division (South) Phase-I, worth 11483 million rupees, and for Special Communication Organization amounting to 468.212 million rupees. Earlier on Wednesday, the ECC approved Ramazan Relief Package. Adviser on Finance Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh presided the meeting of ECC. In the meeting, ECC approved the Ramzan Relief Package announced by Prime Minister Imran Khan amid coronavirus pandemic. The Ramazan Relief Package will be started form April 17 and continued till Eidul Fitr. The subsidy will be provided on 19 essentials grocery items during the month of Ramzan. The bag containing 20kg flour will be available at the rate of Rs800 in utility stores, however, the prices of sugar, pulses and ghee items remained same. The ECC also approved tax-free transactions of government’s flagship welfare project Ehsaas Program till June 30. The PTI government through its Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme will distribute Rs150 billion among 12 million deserving families affected by the economic downturn caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
