ECC approves import of sugar, cotton and yarn from India

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) on Wednesday approved the import of sugar, cotton and yarn from India.

The meeting also approved to fix the support price of wheat at Rs 1,800 per maund. It also approved several supplementary grants.

Finance Minister Hammad Azhar said that the impression of mortgaging the State Bank of Pakistan. "Today our currency is gaining strengthen. We are spending dollars to support it," he added.

He said that the import of 500,000 metric tons of sugar from India had been allowed. "Cotton yarn will be imported from India from June 30, 2021," he added.

The minister said that the import of sugar from India would fulfil the need of Pakistan. "Trade ties with India are being restored. We will accept each proposal after tabling the bill on SBP in the parliament," he said.

He said that it was government's top priority to control inflation. Hammad Azhar said that more relief would be provided to the masses on utility stores.
