ECP directed to submit reply over elections code of conduct

ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Supreme Court (SC) directed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to submit reply over code of conduct for upcoming general elections 2018 on Monday. A bench headed, Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar, heard the case regarding electoral amendments filed by the Workers Party. During the hearing, the chief justice said that there was no possibility of a delay in the upcoming elections. He remarked that all the matters of elections must be completed on urgent basis. He reiterated that won’t allow to delay elections. On the occasion, the director general ECP told the court that the code of conduct was prepared after court’s decision in 2012 however, it has been amended in 2017 after Election Act. However, the court has strictly directed the ECP to submit its reply by today so that it can review new and old code of conduct lists. Earlier, ECP secretary Babar Yaqoob stated that they [read ECP officials] had issued schedule as per jurisdiction bestowed on them by the constitution and law. “Election will be held on 25th of July, 2015 whereas returning officer will issue a notice in this regard tomorrow”, secretary told reporters.
