ECP excuses itself from consulting President Alvi over elections

ISLAMABAD (92 News) - On the issue of elections in Punjab and KP assemblies, the Election Commission of Pakistan has responded to another letter from the President.

In response to the letter, it has been written that according to the constitution, ECP cannot announce the date of the elections nor can they consult with you.

The Secretary of the Election Commission of Pakistan wrote in the letter that the ECP can’t participate in the consultation with the President. The Election Commission cannot fix the date of election automatically.

He wrote that the ECP is well aware of its constitutional responsibilities. After the dissolution of the provincial assemblies, the governors of the two provinces were contacted, but the date of the election has not yet been found. Since the matter of history is being heard in the court, the commission cannot even consult with the office of the President of Pakistan.

On the other side, the Chief Election Commissioner called a meeting yesterday morning. The decision to attend or not to attend the meeting called by the President will be final.
