ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Federal Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda in disqualification case.

A five-member bench headed by Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja conducted hearing on disqualification pleas against Vawda and summoned him to appear in-person on the next hearing.

Faisal Vawda’s counsel did not appear before the ECP and the plaintiff requested to stop Vawda from working as federal minister.

During the hearing, CEC Sultan Raja said that the case has already been delayed and reprimanded the counsel representing Vawda. He said the minister was supposed to respond to questions regarding his dual nationality in the hearing today.

"If the defendant failed to respond on the next haring, the ECP will itself approach the US Consulate for details," the CEC said and adjourned the hearing till February 24.
