October 12, 2017
ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has issued non-bailable arrest warrants for PTI chairman Imran Khan in the contempt of court case. Announcing the verdict, the five-member bench headed by the Chief Election Commissioner also ordered to produce Imran Khan on October 26. Sources said that the verdict was announced with a majority of 3-2. The ECP Punjab and Sindh members opposed the non-bailable arrest warrants, while the Chief Election Commissioner and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan members supported them. PTI leader Babar Awan termed the ECP verdict illegal and unconstitutional. He also announced to move the Islamabad High Court against the verdict. Akbar S Babar, the petitioner, stated that Imran Khan had repeatedly ridiculed the constitutional institution. He said that Imran Khan wants to create anarchy in the country instead of providing justice to the people. ECP Secretary Kanwar Dilshad said that Imran Khan will be disqualified for the elections if he was convicted.
