ISLAMABAD (92 News) – The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has expressed its dissatisfaction over the government's use of electronic voting machine (EVM) in the next general elections.

According to sources, the EVM prepared by the government did not meet the standards of the ECP. In the meeting, the officials of the Ministry of Science and Technology failed to satisfy the Election Commission and demanded answers to many questions.

The ECP raised questions about the software, quality, security and manufacturing technology of the machines and sought their details. It expressed concern that the secrecy of the vote would not be maintained in the current form of electronic voting machine.

Ministry officials told the Election Commission that the option to tick only one of the 20 candidates at a time would be available on the EVM, with more than 20 candidates having to install a new voting machine. Separate voting machines will be required for National and Provincial Assembly constituencies.

According to documents, the Ministry of Science and Technology sought time to resolve the ECP's objections. The Ministry of Science and Technology will rectify the mistakes and give a presentation to the Election Commission again.
