ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday postponed the local government elections scheduled in Islamabad for December 31.

The five-member bench of the ECP announced the reserved verdict on the Federation's plea after hearing the arguments of both parties.

During the hearing, Chief Election Commissioner Sikandar Sultan Raja observed that there should be such legislation that the local bodies elections be held on time.

"Delimitation of constituencies is being done for the third time. Why did the government not consider an increase in the union councils (UCs). It is being feared that the government might make changes in the union councils after delimitations," he observed.

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had left the decision on the Election Commission of Pakistan.
