ISLAMABAD (92 News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Monday excused from postponing the elections on the resolution passed by the Senate.

In its reply to the Senate, the ECP stated that the commission in consultation with President Arif Alvi had fixed the elections date on February 8. "All preparations are complete. It is not appropriate to postpone the elections at this stage," it added.

The ECP said that directions have been issued to the caretaker federal and provincial governments to ensure law and order. "In the past, the elections were held in the winter season," it added.

On the other hand, Senator Dilawar Khan has written a letter to Senate Chairman Sadiq Sanjrani, expressing his concern over ECP's refusal not to take steps on the resolution. "The passed resolution should be implemented. It should have paid attention to the reservations pointed out in the resolution," he added.
