ECP rejects PTI's plea to declare PK-63 Nowshera by-election as null, void

NOWSHERA (92 News) - The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has turned down the PTI's plea to declare PK-63 Nowshera by-election as null and void.

The ECP decided on Thursday to uphold the results in PK-63 Nowshera by-election.

It is pertinent to mention here that PML-N candidate Ikhtiar Wali emerged victorious in the polls, while PTI’s Omar Kakakhel stood runner-up. Wali bagged 21,208 votes while Kakakhel secured 17,097 votes in the February 19 by-polls.

PTI's Kakakhel later moved the ECP to annul the by-election. But the ECP decided on Thursday to uphold the results. The PK-63 seat fell vacant after the death of MPA Mian Jamsheduddin Kakakhel.

On the other hand, the ECP has informed the Sindh government that the NA-249 by-election will be held on April 29.

According to the ECP, 340,000 ballot papers have been printed. The ballot papers carry the names all 30 candidates, Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan candidate Allama Nazir and his election symbol of 'crane'.

The ballot papers and will be shifted to the polling stations under the supervision of the Rangers on April 29. Moreover, the election material will be handed over to the presiding officers on April 28.
